US Troops Shoot and Kill Two Armed Men at Kabul Airport as Afghans Try to Flee Amid Taliban Takeover

August 16, 2021 by USMilitary.org

As thousands of Afghans try to escape following the Taliban seizing control of Kabul, U.S. troops have killed two armed men at Kabul’s Karzai International Airport on Monday.

The news comes after the U.S. took over the Kabul airport on Sunday in an attempt to oversee the evacuation of its diplomatic team and embassy’s personnel.

“U.S. troops shot and killed two armed men at Kabul’s international airport, according to a U.S. official. The armed men, who numbered at least two, approached U.S. troops deployed to the airport to provide security and assist Americans and other individuals in a safe departure from Afghanistan, the official said. Few details were available about how things transpired between the U.S. troops and the armed men, who weren’t identified,” The Wall Street Journal reported.

Monday morning the U.S. suspended flights out of the Kabul airport after Afghans breached security, ran onto the airstrip, and tried to hold onto departing aircraft.

“The US military has suspended air operations at the Kabul airport while troops try to clear the airfield of Afghans who flooded the tarmac, per [CNN Pentagon correspondent Barbara Starr]. Biden’s national security advisers have made clear this a.m. they don’t consider the airport secure right now,” stated CNN’s Kaitlan Collins on Twitter.

Not only is the U.S. rushing to evacuate its diplomats and officials, but there are also an unknown number of American citizens reportedly trapped in Afghanistan behind Taliban checkpoints.

The Biden administration recently announced they will deploy an additional 5,000 troops to aid with the evacuation efforts in Afghanistan.

Fear has spread throughout the region after the Taliban seized control of Kabul following the United States’ withdrawal.

This is a developing story, stay tuned for additional updates.

So you Biden supporters… after 20 years of our military helping the Afghan people become proficient in all areas of society and militarily, how do you think our troops feel watching this moron of a president who’s got no foreign policy strategy, just flush all our hard work down the toilet ? Go get your shot and put on your mask like good little boys and girls while we become the laughing stock of the world!

We are and never will be the so call “Peace keepers” of the world. We make mistakes but have good heart intentions. Always trying to be the diplomat yet failing once again. As Biden is the President now, he, Trump and other past presidents take the blame for this disaster. Nothing new, but how do we get out without feeling like we not only disappointed the people we went over to help mitigate this atrocity, we failed our troops. I don’t have the answer and I am sure all you who are criticizing the President and the effort others made to put an end to the inequalities of the Afghanistan people but yet we want to point the fingers. I can’t speak for every Veteran but as a Veteran, I would have felt proud to serve to serve others who couldn’t take care of them selves. Just part of the job. Just hope somebody got solutions.

Biden may not have it all right, but he’s not all wrong either. He’s definitely not a low key president, So let’s respect & support the office of the presidency like we have the previous administration(s)

Not a low key president? He hid in the basement during the 2020 election! He NEVER talks about the wide open cartel controlled Mexican border. Why is that? Biden has been the head of a criminal family for 40 years, and it continues.

This man that you call president our world will be better off when he goes on full meds for his dementia. After serving twenty years in the military I know how our soldiers they feel. Our soldiers will continue to take orders and perform the duties they are called on to do. I never had a voice on political affairs for twenty years I just performed the missions. Now that I am retired I can speak up. I have a voice we are FUBAR in the USA right now. People better quit following the Marxism agenda or you will see blood in a neighborhood near you soon. We are so divided over political agendas and race it cant continue much longer..

Incompetence at the highest level. Back home watch all prices rising. Gouging by merchants trying to make up for a year of lost business. Biden is head of a criminal family that’s been operating for 40 years. China has a ton of stuff on him and he gladly does their bidding. He will also hand Taiwan to the CCP. And, what about the wide-open cartel controlled border? Come on Biden people, speak UP! I’m all ears!

I have been in three campaigns. President Biden has been great in his decisions to pull back, after 20yrs,the Afghan people Didn’t have ever a plan in place,350,000 army strong lay down their arm to The Taliban shamelessly they failed their own Country. NOT THE US ARMY WE GAVE TOO MUCH TO STAY THERE,WE GET NOTHING IN RETURNED.

I have no problem with leaving Afghanistan. I have a problem with how it was orchestrated. If DS Biden, said to the generals, “Just get out, then it is on him.” If he gave the military the opportunity for an orderly pull out, and they botched it, then my feeling that there are some really corrupt people at the 5 sided building. Look, I did my 6 year obligation as a volunteer. I came out an E-5. Just an average guy doing his duty. Yet, I would bet my left “T,” that the majority of my collogues could have designed an operation that could have had us out in a timely fashion, without leaving billions of dollars of top notch equipment, and good Afghan friends behind. It is my understanding, the we have not had a combat casualty in 18 months. Thus, what is the rush? Come to Chicago. There is a combat casualty every 10 minutes. How about pulling out of Chicago?

    Sorry, me again.

You take out 2500 troops, and send in 7000. Is this some sort of new math? Apparently, my arithmetic training at a one room country school, back in 1945 to 1950, is know longer relevant. Lucy says, “Splan that to me Ricky.”

I think it would have been a more better choice and better planning if you did the evacuation before you allowed the enemy to take over the city. The deployment of the military could have better used

I have no personal military experience, my spouse and siblings do. My country is in sorry shape. My children worry about where to go if the city they live in is targeted, how will they protect their children. This is a worry that has resurfaced from 9-11.. America is a blessed place to live. With all her faults millions of people from all over the world want to move here. The southern border is a free-for-all., the cities are facing homeless beyond belief, crime rampant, and employment is screwy with employers begging for employees. and the unemployed demand wages the employer can’t afford. The question is how will we get and maintain a government of the people. who believe in the democratic republic. The last 2 election cycles were fraught with ambiguous results. We do not trust the election process that is so vital to a secure and continuous transition of government.

  19. Karen says

    August 17, 2021 at 6:31 pm

Me again. When I heard “Shelter in Place”, I felt this was a death sentence. That we had no way of evacuating these people. Now that the additional troops are being sent in, do we have a clear path to an evacuation of all
    our support personell?
