Why is this service for new Military members?
What about those of us who have been loyal Costco members who are retired military?

Yes, why not to service members and veterans. Let be fair to all who served.

I absolutely agree. I served as a USAF officer for 25 years. In addition, I’ve been a Costco customer for over 10 years. Why is this offered to only new Costco members? Maybe I need to take my loyalty to another discount warehouse store!!!

    • Ralph Vitale says

      December 7, 2021 at 6:33 pm

Not only that, it’s no big deal. It’s a one-time $20 card. As a vet, at Home Depot and Lowe’s I get 10% off everything I purchase all year long and they have been doing it for years.

I am a member of the rear echelon military forces (REMF) that has peeled potatoes and heated water for C- Rats and MREs for countless vets who have made many combat jumps, earned many medals including Medal of Honor winners. Don’t I deserve a discount like a new member of the military?

Sounds like discrimination. Are they going broke?

My name is Travis Wofford, Retired LT.Col., U S Air Force. I also am a Costco card holder and have been so
for over 20 years . Why shouldn’t this offer be for all veterans. After all most stores I deal with do offer
a 10% discount to military veterans. My email is woffoth at gmail.com. I would appreciate your answer and
    reasoning.

  4. Jerry Deutsch says

True all should get the same as new vets just like Sam’s club.

  5. John T Owen says

    December 6, 2021 at 8:04 pm

Ditto to the above comments, I’ve been a loyal Costco member since 2003 and am also a Vietnam Veteran. You would think Costco could afford a Shop Card for all veterans regardless if they’re old or new members!

  6. WW says

    December 6, 2021 at 8:04 pm

Very rarely do veterans receive the benefits and thank they deserve for the services that they HS e rendered to ensure the liberty and security that all are able to experience.. We put our lives in harms way because we love our country and pledged allegiance to it.

I also am a Costco card holder and have been so for over 20 years .

Why shouldn’t this offer be for all veterans.

seems rather chicken shit & cheap, Costco makes 100s of MILLIONs worldwide just on BS “membership” fees,

seems a bit ridiculous these days to $60 so I have the privilege to Costco my $$$$$$$$ to pay retail, prices are not much cheaper than any other retailer

Am I misunderstanding or misinterpreting the information that I received that as a “retired” Commissioned Officer, I am NOT eligible for the military discount ?

Am I misinterpreting the information that I reviewed.

If so, this would be highly unusual as I am eligible for all other companies that offer military discounts.

I have been a COSTCO member since the store opened in Montgomery. I served in the military for31 years
and retired here in Montgomery. I recently renewed my membership. Why should I have to purchase a new membership to receive a military discount? I am both a member of COSTCO and a retired member of the Armed Forces namely, the USAF.

I agree with all of the above about this offer. For new members only ? Thanks ! What about us people that have been loyal members for years ? What about our discounted membership ? A vet since 1967 ,a Costco member for many years ,NO DISCOUNTED membership. .Could you please explain this non discount for me and many others.

  19. Rory Koon, retired CMSGT, USAF says

    December 6, 2021 at 9:13 pm

If you are offering a military discount for “new” members, can you explain why that same courtesy isn’t extended to all the eligible veterans??

  20. Eldon Huls says

    December 6, 2021 at 9:15 pm

I agree all who have served in the military should be able to get this discount. We haven’t been members very long but there was no mention of it when we signed up. Just doesn’t make sense.

  21. Lee says

    December 6, 2021 at 9:20 pm

There are a great many of us that feel the same way about the discount offer. It seem like it’s only a ploy to get new members.
Look Costco, either offer to all active & Vets or don’t offer at all! Don’t be so shallow Costco.

  22. Cynthia M Droz CAPT USN NC Ret says

    December 6, 2021 at 9:28 pm

My comment is the same as many others. I retired after serving 26 years as a Navy Nurse and I have been a Costco member for more years than I can count. I don’t understand why this offer is only available to NEW MEMBERS ONLY!!!!!!!!!!!! Can I have the thousands and thousands of dollars I have spent over the years back please?????????? My late Husband also served 20 years on Active duty and lost his life aboard AA Flt 77 on September 11, 2001.

  26. Jennifer Tracey says

    December 6, 2021 at 10:49 pm

My husband and I were both Costco member’s throughout our military careers. Every time we transferred if there was a Costco, we shopped there. We are both disabled veterans now. I retired 11 years ago and they have just opened one an hr away. I haven’t been an active card member in quite a while, does this mean you’re not going to give us the discount too? Not giving your Present Vet cardholders the same discount is VERY BAD BUSINESS Costco. Veterans are a very large group that:
    1. Like to get together and share.
    2. Mostly drinks and stories but occasionally…… well, you know.🙂

  27. Scott Foster says

    December 7, 2021 at 12:17 am

As per all of the above, I have been a COSCO member since COSCO opened in Hawaii and I am a retired veteran. It does not seem right to offer something honoring the service of military personnel and then limit it to only new members. What a slap in the save to all the loyal military COSCO members.

  28. Allan Bailey says

    December 7, 2021 at 12:22 am

Maybe ALL of US Vets need to give costco thier cards back and shop somewhere else, Some place that Honors ALL its Veterans.

  29. Becky Allen says

    December 7, 2021 at 8:54 am

I feel the same as everyone else who has made a comment here. I retired from the military and have been a loyal shopper at Costco for over 30 years. I don’t think it is right for ONLY New Members get a military discount.
I live in a military town and Costco is only a few miles away. I think that if all current military Costco members stopped shopping at Costco because they aren’t entitled to the military discount for “New Members” the store would lose business. I’m sure there are non military Costco members in the community that would support us by not shipping at Costco.

  30. Fred Rich says

    December 7, 2021 at 4:07 pm

Thank you to Costco for recognizing military service. However, I do agree with previous comments about Costco only making this offer to New members. The Home Depot, Lowes, and other locations offer a 10% discount every day. Costco please consider expanding your offer to recognize all of your military clientele.

Again Veterans are getting the cold shoulder regarding the new Costco discount card.. I am a Vietnam veteran 100 percent totally disabled and have been a Costco member since day one, but why this is only for new members How dare Costco treat the veterans who have been Costco member for years. If this continues to offer this for new members only I can only say that All veterans who are in this group maybe we should stop our membership

Cosco, sounds like you really don’t give a sh*t about veterans, you just want to add new members. What slap in the face to all who served. Cisco should be ashame of themselves.

  39. Vann Vaughan says

Thank you Costco for recognizing military service.. In the military loyalty is appreciated. I expect Costco may have overlooked their loyal members whom have served in the military. If New Member receive this benefit, don’t you think veterans whom have been loyal to Costco deserve the same loyalty?

  42. Cathy Corker says

    December 7, 2021 at 9:38 pm

just want to add my name and complaint to the growing list of veterans who feel mistreated by being left out of this arrangement!!!

My wife and I are going to join Sam’s Club on Thursday. I too am a 100% Disabled Viet Nam Combat Veteran, I served in the USMC for 16 years. I’ve got to say that the miniscule amount that Costco is giving the new Vet / Active Duty Personnel doesn’t upset me as much as them having such a small number of Amigo Handicap Carts.

My Wife’s Sister took us into Sam’s Club. Almost everything they have there is on the most part for 4 or under groceries. She shopped for 60 people for Thanksgiving. Since then my Wife and I have discussed joining Sam’s and this is just the time to do it.

  44. Delbert Rogers says

I have been a Costco member since they first opened in the Reno and Sparks area,
I am also a retired military veteran, and a Vietnam combat veteran.
Why is this discount being offered to new veteran customers only?

    • David C Perry says

      December 8, 2021 at 1:29 am

This discount should be offered to all active military, veterans and retired military. I am a disabled Vietnam veteran and take exception to this offer leaving those who have served this country honorably somewhat aloof. This I feel was provided with good intentions but it will ultimately have a negative effect. Why; think about it?

  45. Harry Schwartz says

    December 8, 2021 at 1:02 pm

Have been a business Member for years. Army Vet. Why am I not entitled to this benefit like others?

  46. Charles Butler says

    December 8, 2021 at 6:16 pm

I am 100% disabled from service from 1966 – 1973. Have been a business member since the 80’s. Can I become a new member under ‘my name’ and not under the business name?

  47. Richard M. Block says

    December 8, 2021 at 6:45 pm

How could Costco be so stupid? Perhaps if every veteran were to stop shopping at Costco for a few months and just shop at Sam’s Club until the Costco management gets their head out from where the sun doesn’t shine.

  48. Patty Brady says

    December 8, 2021 at 6:47 pm

Honestly it’s not like Costco doesn’t make hundreds of thousands of dollars a day. I’m sure they could afford $20.00 measly bucks for us veterans. Right???
